Grace Berg Schaible has long served the State of Alaska, the University of Alaska, and her home community of Fairbanks, Alaska. Born Grace Berg in Tacoma, Washington, in 1925, she was raised in Juneau, Alaska, and graduated from the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines (now the University of Alaska Fairbanks) in 1949.
